Jupiter and Saturn as Economic Indicators

Astrologers recognize the importance of Planetary Pairs. Planets that represent, in their cycle of relationship to each other, some focus upon human activity. In an earlier Insight article I mentioned the importance of Saturn and Pluto as it represents our response to Fear and Limits (Saturn) and the Power groups (Pluto).

Money, economic trends, and world trade are all tied to the two “Economic Indicators”, Jupiter and Saturn. Jupiter and Saturn join at the same degree every twenty years. Astrologers have been studying this relationship for many years.

Jupiter represents the principle of expansion, growth, optimism, and the human desire to explore and go beyond where they have been before.    Saturn represents the principle of consolidation, structure, organization, and limits through control.

They seem to be opposites. Jupiter wants to take a chance and expand into new territory. Saturn urges caution and demands an accounting. They are actually essential parts of the economic engine. When these two concepts are balanced, an economy thrives. If either one begins to take over, we may experience run-away inflation, or slow growth and high interest rates. Our government is constantly attempting to find the balance point of low interest and low inflation coupled with new business starts and full employment.

I keep in mind the backdrop of the overall Jupiter/Saturn twenty-year cycle within which we are all operating. Cycles have a beginning, middle and end. The cycle of the Sun and Moon is the easiest to see because we can actually see the beginning (New Moon), the first quarter, halfway point,  (Full Moon), last quarter, and back to the beginning (New Moon). All cycles can be studied in this way.

We are currently in an economic cycle that is ending one style and beginning a new style. (If it were in a Sun Moon cycle, we would be in the space between last quarter and New Moon) This is usually felt as a kind of grinding of gears. The people and governments that like the old style are resisting the changes they feel are being forced upon them. The people who represent the new impulse are pushing to use new ways of communicating and promoting ideas for a “new economy”. The fall of Enron Corporation is an example of trying to mix old methods with new untried methods. No one had a plan for monitoring this “hybrid” business model (A marriage of Earth and Air). Accounting methods that had been proven through the years  (Earth) were abandoned to accommodate a mixture of “partnerships” with little or no substance (Air).

How does this pertain to your money, job, or financial plans? If you are wise you will begin to examine things you took for granted because they were built upon the common sense way “it has always been done” (Earth).

Who owns your company? Who owns your bank? Who manages your savings or investment plan? It may not be the same entity that was in place when you signed on for the agreement. Diversity is the key. It will require your careful attention based upon taking nothing for granted because of the fast moving flow of money and financial “products” (Air).

This mixture will continue until the Air model is established in 2020. You have time to adjust to the changes. After all the Earth model has been around since 1842. We have built a world of “things” in the intervening years. From steamboats, railroads, electrical motors and gasoline powered engines that we take for granted to electronic devices like the “palm pilot” you can’t do without.

You can take comfort in the fact that you have a very personal financial signature in your own personal chart. The way in which you approach your Jupiter urge to take a chance, to explore a new idea can lead to financial expansion. Your attitude toward Saturn as your internal “Father message” about discipline, self control, hard work and setting goals can help you build a base of solid financial planning. You have many tools at your disposal. However, you will need to keep in mind the worldwide Jupiter/Saturn cycle that is operating at the same time.

Earth signs are Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. Emphasis upon the physical world; Practicality, measurable accomplishments; the right to enjoy your products of hard work.

Air signs are Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius. This is the realm of ideas, communication, partnerships, and the innovations of futuristic thinking. It can be the engine of ideas that drives the practical application of the tangible (Earth) world.
