Ancient Tools: The Power of an Eclipse

What were you doing in 1983? If you were born in1983 in June, you are 19 years old and have completed one full eclipse cycle. For some of my readers this may be the second, third or even fourth cycle. No matter when your birthday took place, an upcoming eclipse will find a home in your chart. If it connects to a significant pattern in your chart, you are likely to experience the end of one way of doing things.

The New Moon may be an eclipse but not all New Moons are eclipses. Solar or Sun eclipses are seen during the day because the Sun is above the horizon. The Moon is aligned between the Earth and the Sun so that all or part of the Sun’s light is temporarily blocked from view. What does this have to do with your life?

Since ancient times people have observed that changes seem to coincide with an eclipse. Leaders were deposed or died in office; plagues and wars were also associated with this blocked energy. The focus was upon world conditions rather than personal conditions in earlier times.

Today we hardly notice an eclipse unless a Total Eclipse can be seen in the latitude and longitude where you live. Our twenty-four hour news cycle announces major events without connecting them to the New Moon or occasional eclipse. (Most years have two Solar eclipses). You may have read about the effects of New and Full Moons in relationship to weather. Or you may recall that farmers and rural residents timed planting and harvesting of crops to the information in the Farmer’s Almanac. These reference books showing the cycles of the Moon were followed because they got results. They realized that natural cycles affect all of our lives.

If you made major changes in your life during 1983, the eclipse on June 10, 1983 at 19 degrees of the sign Gemini, may have connected with planets in your birth chart.

You won’t need anyone to explain how life altering it can be or which department of your life was affected. You have your experiences and memories as a reference.

The real value of tracking the eclipses that impact your chart is to learn what they mean.  The eclipse of June 11, 2002 at 19 degrees Gemini is repeating the cycle that was present in 1983 and 1964. As you consider the main events and the way you dealt with them, it will provide clues about how you will use what you learned from your prior experiences. For example: One client recalls that a divorce that had been pending for four years was finally complete. In another case the elderly parent died and it became necessary to make new living arrangements for the remaining parent. In still another situation my client began training for a completely new profession that involved communication. (Gemini rules communication).

The part of your chart in which the Sun and Moon in Gemini falls will become the focus of your attention. If it falls in the 2nd house, which deals with the money you earn, you may have a financial gain or loss or change jobs to advance in your career.

In any case money matters will capture your attention. If on the other hand it falls in the 7th house of marriage and committed relationships, it will require extra effort to resolve any differences. (Some marriages are stronger as a result of this “wake up call”).

A Solar eclipse marks the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. This particular eclipse is considered to be especially “potent” because it is near the place in the sky where other planetary patterns have recently occurred. President Bush has the planet Uranus at 19 degrees of Gemini so the eclipse is likely to bring unexpected change to him personally. He has announced a plan to make major changes in the government by adding a Cabinet post.

Astrologers are watching other world leaders who may make policy changes that could have far reaching consequences. One can only hope that it leads to greater harmony through improved dialogue/communications. (Gemini).

In your own life you can respond to this new beginning by choosing your words carefully. If some information that you have could resolve an old issue this may be the time to bring it forward. On the other hand if keeping your wise counsel by avoiding a confrontation seems the better course, you may salvage a relationship or a job. If you are old enough to measure this time against the previous 1983 eclipse, you will find some valuable insights as you reflect upon the way you handled the previous situation.

Some clients tell me that they choose a different path because they understand now the part they played in the earlier drama.

The study of planetary cycles can add much valuable information and can help you make more rewarding choices. Just as the ancient rulers had their Astrological counselors, so too, you can use modern technology to keep track of the patterns that affect your life. An in depth Personal Reading can provide a guide to the Astrological “weather” ahead.
