Astrology as a Guide to the Big Picture

By necessity, each of us is focused upon the narrow concerns of our life. Education, job choices, relationships, family ties are all up close and personal. However, these personal issues are being conducted against a backdrop of what is taking place in your neighborhood, city, state, and nation. The national conditions are also tied to global or foreign policies that affect the economy, and the very safety of our country.

Astrology as a Guide to a Sharp Personal Focus

For example: Suppose your plans to attend college were dashed because one of your parents lost a job that could have supplied the money to pay tuition. At that point it might have seemed a good alternative to go into one of the military branches, which promised educational opportunities. It might also have put a budding romance on hold because of the new uncertainties with which you were dealing. Once you are in the service, you learn that you are needed in a foreign country more than in the classroom. Result: The changing economy in your town affects your parent, which changes your college plans, which alters your personal relationships, and ultimately places you on the world stage.

The Big Picture : Saturn’s position can be interpreted to show that foreign intervention slows the United States economy.

Sharp Personal Focus : Planetary patterns in the birth chart intersect with the transiting planets (for the present time), that affect the part of the chart that describes education and foreign travel.  Another possibility would have been to travel to a foreign country to further the education if another source of financial support could have been found.

Or consider this situation: You are struggling to choose a new career path. You have prepared for a career in a field that is not expanding. You have been unable to land a job in your city. You can go to work for a company in another state and leave family and friends behind, or you can go back to college and add more marketable skills that will provide a job in your hometown. (For example: A journalist elects to get a teaching certificate and teach in his local high school.) The changed economic downturn that was nationwide became a personal issue when he was forced to adjust to new conditions in order to make a living.

The Big Picture : The planetary patterns for the United States chart show stress upon the economy because transiting Saturn and Pluto are aligning with the overall global condition.

Sharp Personal Focus : The birth chart shows the close family ties. Another person might have been willing to move in order to get a job. The same tendency to place family first would make teaching young people a good career choice. Saturn connecting with the birth chart shows the delay or interruption of plans.

Another scenario: You learn that one of your children has a life threatening medical condition. The doctors are confident that with the proper treatment, the outcome will be good. Your boss informs you that because of a tightening economy and fewer orders for your company’s products, they are forced to drop the health insurance program. You have two months to make a new arrangement. Your search for new coverage makes it clear you will be unable to afford the cost. Result: You become focused upon the political conditions that seemed so remote a few short days before. Will you be forced to liquidate all of the family’s assets in order to qualify for public assistance in order to obtain the treatment your child must have?

Big Picture: The planet Uranus is forming challenging aspects to the State chart in which the person lives. The possibility of lack of political support for social programs, due in part to the economic downturn, is great.

Sharp Personal Focus : When the planets Saturn, and Pluto connect with sensitive areas in the birth chart it often brings national or global issues into the personal life. When Uranus is added to the mix, as it has been for those born in the mid 60’s, it can cause people who were not formerly very political to react in a strongly political manner.

Big Picture or a Strong Personal Focus    Both are areas of study for the professional Astrologer. One of the services we provide is to act as interpreter and strategist as we assist our clients in learning how to adjust to both realities. Planets move in cycles. The easiest cycle to observe is the relationship of the Sun to the Moon. They are together at the New Moon, First Quarter, followed by the opposition (180 degrees), then to Last Quarter, and back to the new Moon or beginning of the cycle. All of the planets in our Sun or Solar systems move through their cycles in relationship to the planets in our birth charts.

The patterns can be studied months and years before they happen. Astrologers who follow political or economic trends often write about them months or years before the patterns are exact. The same is true about your personal birth pattern. You can use these insights to time periods of growth and times of consolidation. Remember you decide how to respond to the “planetary weather” that affects your personal situation.
